About the Gallery

The University Art Gallery is a popular source of ideas and culture in Sewanee. Through exhibitions of contemporary art, and in support of the Art and Art History curriculum, we seek to engage university students and the community in a culturally and intellectually stimulating environment. We strive to foster understanding and respect for the arts through critical observation and challenging discourse. Our idyllic location and reputation as a cultural center draw audiences from the surrounding area and regional cities, including Nashville, Chattanooga, Huntsville, Birmingham and Atlanta.

The gallery presents five exhibitions each year. The fall semester typically opens with an exhibition by one of the Sewanee art faculty. Three solo or group shows follow. The final show of the year is always a group show featuring the graduating Senior Art Majors, which opens in mid-April.
